Bulut Senyaprak was unanimously awarded the 2026 Marianne Van Vyve Prize for his highly personal and poetic body of work centered on colour, rhythm, and repetition. Senyaprak’s artistic practice changed profoundly after a brain aneurysm in 2020 left the right side of his body paralyzed. For two years, he was unable to paint. During that period, he was forced to reconsider not only the physical act of making paintings but also his relationship to art itself. Returning to the studio, he learned to draw and paint with his left hand. What initially felt unfamiliar and frustrating gradually became a process of adaptation, resilience and rediscovery.
